4 detained following Texas altercation

A 29-year-old woman was detained following an altercation at a Texas cable park that involved fighting between several individuals over Memorial Day weekend. Three men were taken into custody as well. The incident began around 10 p.m. on May 24.

The woman and her companions were using a slide in one part of the park when the 42-year-old owner of the park and a woman turned up. Allegedly, the park owner was shouting at the individuals and using profanity with a man from the other party. Eventually, the two were separated, and the visitors returned to their cabin.

Reports say that the owner then arrived at the cabin with three other men. The owner immediately rushed toward the individual with whom he had had the earlier verbal exchange. He and the other two men then began to assault that individual. The individual's friends tried to intervene. Video of the incident shows that the woman punched the park owner's girlfriend in the nose.

The woman was charged with Class-A misdemeanor assault. The park owner and the two men who allegedly participated in the attack were charged with aggravated assault/serious bodily injury.

There are a number of approaches an attorney might take in the defense of these individuals depending on their individual circumstances. For example, it could be difficult to dispute that the woman hit the other woman because of the video. However, it may be argued that the act was done in self-defense or due to other extenuating circumstances. The men may dispute the way in which events unfolded. Another option for all of the individuals might be a plea bargain in exchange for a lighter sentence.
