Texas woman apprehended, charged in alleged bank robbery

Officers with the Lacy Lakeview Police Department have announced that a 20-year-old Fort Worth woman has been taken into custody for allegedly robbing a Lacy Lakeview bank on Dec. 29. According to reports, the robbery occured around 11:40 a.m. at the Extraco Bank on Loop 340.

According to reports, tellers indicated the woman handed them a note that stated she had a weapon. After being handed money, she reportedly left the bank on foot, heading in the direction of I-35. Police indicated that on Dec. 30, they received several tips that the woman had reportedly been sighted inside several banks in Killeen and Lorena.

Upon receiving the tips, Lacy Lakeview police, in coordination with the Killeen and Lorena police departments, were able to locate the woman. She was found by Hillsboro County police inside of a Hillsboro bank around 4:00 p.m. on Dec. 30. Officers reportedly interviewed the woman and took her into custody on suspicion of armed robbery. According to officers, the tip leading to the woman's identification came in response to a Facebook post of the woman's picture obtained during the bank robbery. She was booked at the McLennan County Jail, and no bond information was available.

Individuals who are accused of robbery are sometimes charged following a tip provided to the police. When surveillance is available from a robbery and the perpetrator's identity is unknown, it is becoming increasingly common for stills from the video to be posted on social media in order to secure tips. People who are charged with felony crimes following a tip from the public may want to have a criminal defense attorney evaluate the tip and investigate the strength of the identification in the case.
