Woman Accused of Running Over Security Guard After Shoplifting

On Sept. 27, it was reported that a 20-year-old Texas woman was taken into custody after she was accused of shoplifting and injuring one person. A second woman was also thought to have been involved; however, the authorities were still looking for the second individual.

The woman and the second individual were allegedly caught shoplifting from a Macy’s department store on Aug. 30. A security guard for the store reportedly saw the theft occur and alerted mall security of the two individuals as they left. The mall security guards confronted the two after they had already gotten into their vehicle. The second woman involved reportedly started the car and crashed into a security guard. He landed on the hood of the vehicle, and the driver allegedly began to swerve right and left to get the guard off the vehicle.

The guard was struck a second time before the two women left the parking lot. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. An employee who allegedly knew the two women was able to identify them for authorities. The 20-year-old woman was later apprehended and charged with aggravated assault of a deadly weapon. It was not known when her next court appearance was scheduled to be.

Being accused of a violent crime can result in severe consequences that could potentially include a long jail sentence. In cases where an individual was charged with assault, a lawyer might be able to prove that a defendant was trying to defend him or herself against another person. The attorney may also negotiate with the prosecution to reduce any consequences if the evidence against the accused person is strong.
