Animal cruelty in Texas

Texas animal cruelty laws are much narrower than the laws of many other states, as wild animals, animals used in experiments and circus animals are not protected. Animal cruelty offenses are either subject to criminal prosecution or a civil case. The criminal laws are reserved for animals that are domesticated or that are domesticated livestock.

Interrogation and false memories

According to research published in a psychological journal, persons accused of a crime in states such as Texas can be easily led to produce a false memory of a crime they never committed. The research is based on a lab study done in British Columbia. It concludes that false memories can be produced in normal individuals in as short a time as three hours with the right inducements.

Man arrested for alleged 8th DUI offense

A Trophy Club man was taken into custody on suspicion he committed an eighth DUI offense following his indictment on the charges on Jan. 8. The allegations stem from an accident that allegedly occurred in November 2014. He was named in the indictment in December 2014.

Texas woman apprehended, charged in alleged bank robbery

Officers with the Lacy Lakeview Police Department have announced that a 20-year-old Fort Worth woman has been taken into custody for allegedly robbing a Lacy Lakeview bank on Dec. 29. According to reports, the robbery occured around 11:40 a.m. at the Extraco Bank on Loop 340.

Genetics and the likelihood of delinquency

Texas residents may be surprised to hear that a new study indicates that certain genetic factors combined with someone's environment may contribute to an increase or decrease in delinquency. The study, which was published in the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology, looked at three genes and their variants: MAOA, BDNF and 5-HTTLPR.
