5 detained in Texas for alleged robbery

Five individuals in Texas face aggravated robbery charges for an incident that was allegedly connected to online dating. According to authorities, a 25-year-old man and a woman whom he had met online were robbed at gunpoint on Nov. 11 at an apartment complex in Tyler. Authorities later detained four men for the alleged incident. Local officials also detained the 20-year-old woman, claiming that she was involved in the robbery.

The alleged incident began when the woman asked the victim to drive to her friend's apartment. When they arrived, the four accused men reportedly robbed the man at gunpoint. After admitting that he had no money, the man was told to go to a nearby ATM while the men stayed back with the woman. Rather than going to the ATM, the man allegedly left the apartment and called the police.

All four men and the young woman were taken into custody following an investigation by local police and the U.S. Marshal's Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force. The authorities claim that the woman knew the four men and that all five individuals cooperated in executing the attempted robbery. All five suspects were detained and held on $750,000 bond.

Unless there is video or some other corroborating evidence of the robbery, much of the charges' validity rests on the word of the reported victim. A defense attorney for the accused may explore whether all four men were actually involved in the alleged crime. Also, if the prosecution fails to find any premeditation in the act, certain charges may be dismissed or dropped.
